The Sunflower Project

You know the feeling when you collapse onto your bed after a looooong day, pull the soft, cozy covers up under your nose, and just   b   r   e   a   t   h   e   ?

Or the feeling you get as a college student when you open the door to your grandparents house and good music, crazy smells, and open arms surround you?

Maybe you know the feeling where you’re with a group of your favorite friends, making breakfast as sun rolls through the window and steam from pancakes dances around in the air.

Or the feeling when you open the front door and you’re greeted by your best friend, and that best friend has four paws and a tail and they look at you like you’re on top of the world.

All of these feelings have something in common. The feeling of being at HOME. You’ve felt it. You know what I’m talking about. Whether it be a cozy bed, a big family, a celebration of friends, or a simple hello from your pet, close your eyes and think about home and you’ll get the feeling I’m describing to you at this moment.

When you’re online, whether its just browsing, reading, or actually creating content (through a blog, for example), how do you get that feeling? The feeling of being at home? How do you feel close? Safe? Connected? Home is where you go when you’re happy and have news to share; its where you go when you’re sad and searching for open arms and wise words of wisdom.

I’m serious. What if there was a place online that truly embodied HOME? A place to share exciting news and a place with open arms? A place that welcomed talk of wellness and promoted ideas to help you navigate through life’s ups and downs?

Well friends, I know. I have your spot. I have your HOME.

The Sunflower Project is a movement by Sara Laughed encouraging positivity, balance, and self-care in college. Based off of The Sunflower Project, The Sunflower Circle is an online community for college students seeking support and community in pursuing a healthier, happier lifestyle. This is most definitely not your typical blogging Facebook group; there are regular themed discussion threads that encourage self-reflection and a positive mindset. In The Sunflower Circle you will not only meet new friends and find a great community, but take the time to focus on your health and wellbeing with girls who get it and girls that feel just like you.

College is hard and college is tough. With The Sunflower Circle, there is a community waiting for you and a community that feels like HOME.

The themed discussion threads in the group are always led by thought provoking, intentional questions and ideas. One thing we’ve been discussing recently is gratitude. Gratitude is strongly linked to overall happiness (Harvard says so). Stemming from The Sunflower Project, #GrowGratitude is a two-week Instagram challenge where we take a picture of something we are grateful for every day, using daily one-word prompts (such as favorite, colors, home). You are MORE than welcome to join in on this great fun!
