THIS WEEKEND WAS THE BEST WEEKEND OF MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE.
I went to a DRIVE. THROUGH. ZOO.
I honestly have no words.
Only a whole lot of love for giraffes.
But none for emus. You guys, I don’t even have a picture of them because they freak me out SO much.
My love for giraffes began…well, I don’t really know. I don’t have a specific date. But what I do know is that my Grandma gave me a giraffe pillow (she chased down a little boy and grabbed it from his sweaty little hands since there was only one left and he wasn’t buying it) while we were at Disney World, I named him Tinker, and I’ve loved the animal ever since. There is a giraffe at the Nashville Zoo named Savannah and we’re BFFs.
Let’s start from the beginning: My sweet friend from home came to stay the night. We started off her visit with a trip to IHOP, where we paid 25 cents for three pancakes. YEP. 25 cents for THREE!
The next morning, we headed out to the Lazy 5 Ranch, a drive through zoo in Mooresville, NC. Its about 30 minutes away from Charlotte and the ranch closes at sunset, so my friend and I left right after lunch!
You pay about $10 per person (cash only!!) and $3 per feed bucket. You can drive through as many times as you want and we took FULL advantage of this — we went around the big loop twice! I was a little nervous about the ranch at first since I’m not really a huge fan of zoos in general. Of course if you’re keeping the animals in captivity to help them and get them back to where they belong, I’m all for it, but taking animals like giraffes out of their home to freakin’ North Carolina just seems so strange.
I was so surprised at how truly happy the animals were. I know I sound like such a huge dork when I say that, but its true! They were SO friendly and sweet. Even the giraffes were social and happy, and they’re a looong way from home!
(Get it? Long? They’re tall? HA! Ha)
The animals all look super healthy too — and chubby, of course, since their job is to come up to car windows and eat people’s food :] As you can see above the llamas were not afraid of cars. Or selfies. And my hand is holding the window up so 1. My friend can’t ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN AND PUT CHILD LOCK ON LIKE SHE DID ONE TIME and 2. So I don’t accidentally make the window go down because 1. I don’t want to get spit on and 2. I love llamas and all but not all up in my space. And my face. You know what I mean?
Since its the springtime, there were SO. MANY. BABIES!
I actually cried when I saw that gang of lil piglets. I shed real tears. We followed them around for 892 hours and I put a million videos on my snap story. The one on the right that has the biggest belly made eye contact with me and that was when I knew we were soulmates.
Whoever I marry better be okay with piglets because I’m about to have, like, 27 of them.
We weren’t allowed to touch or feed the zebras at all. I don’t really know why. People say they’re aggressive but they were sweet baby angels to me! For some reason I underestimated how HUGE zebras would be.
Overall, my experience at the Lazy 5 Ranch was one of my top 5 of my whole entire life. Not kidding. And #1 is when my little sister was born so you can imagine how freakin’ awesome the zoo was if its close to that.
Finals start next week so pray 4 me, okay? TELL ME: What did you do this weekend?
