Happy Holidays, everyone! Here are 4 places with gifts that just keep on givin’:
1. “From day one, the mission was at the heart of everything Serengetee. By purchasing fabric from over 25 countries, we support artisans, their families, and ancient fabric making traditions. And by donating 5% back to a diverse range of nearby causes, we work to improve lives in their communities.” Serengetee is SO popular on my college campus and I love wearing cute clothes that support a cause I’m passionate about.
2. “Amani ya Juu means ‘Peace from Above’. We are a social economic enterprise committed to peace and reconciliation for African women.” Doesn’t that sound AWESOME? “In the face of conflict and poverty, women at Amani regain hope and stability and share Christ’s gift of peace in their homes, communities and nations.” The gifts created by Amani are so unique and beaUTIFUL. Like this incredible Hors D’oeuvres set, just in time for the holiday season where your house fills to the brim with family and friends — and good food. Don’t forget that.
3. Days for Girls is an organization I found recently that made my heart SO happy. As someone who is really interested in and passionate about women’s health, I found this organization’s mission to be so incredible: “Every girl in the world deserves education, safety, and dignity. We further this goal by helping girls who would otherwise go without to have access to quality sustainable feminine hygiene and awareness. We accomplish this through both direct distribution with many nonprofits, by raising awareness, by helping other organizations start their own programs and importantly, by helping ultra poor communities start their own programs to supply kits and training.” A great way to get involved with Days for Girls is creating these empowering kits filled with tools to help with accessing feminine products and raising awareness.
4. Heifer International is an amazing way to give back and help others in need this holiday season. They work to empower families all over the world and give them the tools they need to create a brighter future. There are so many gift categories to choose from, including agriculture and women’s empowerment.
The gift range in price, from funding a women’s self help group for $72, to sending a young girl to school for $275. Agriculturally, for $30 you can give honey bees, for $20 a flock of chicks, and for $150 an irrigation pump! The possibilities are endless.
Heifer’s approach is unique in that they give families a hand-up, not just a handout. Their model is simple and it works: “Heifer provides livestock and training to a family facing poverty; that family shares the knowledge they receive along with the first female offspring of their livestock with another family, extending the impact of the original gift. As these families achieve self-reliance, entire communities are uplifted. Now THAT is a gift that keeps on giving.”
